Native to the Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains in the state of Coahuila, and south of Nuevo Leon, in northeastern Mexico. Edible plant - it is used for making the distilled liquor 'mezcal'. Herbal plant - it is depurative, laxative and reduces cholesterol.
