It is native to Japan, Korea and north-east China and Russia far east. Ornamental plant. Edible plant - the seeds are sometimes pressed to yield an edible oil. Herbal plant - an extract of the leaves is used as an ingredient in commercial cosmetic preparations as a skin conditioner. Useful plant - the white wood is hard and close grained, it is used for making small items, agricultural tools, furniture, turnery, etc.
