This herbaceous annual vine in the buckwheat family appears to be missing from the World data bank. Three features make the identification fairly straightforward. The reddish stems are quite spiny; the flower clearly belongs in the Polygonaceae; and the leaves are remarkably triangular in shape. It is native to most of temperate and tropical eastern Asia, and is regarded as a highly invasive weed.
