It is native to Europe and Northern Africa and naturalized in North America. Bees foraging plant, the flowers are rich of nectar. Edible plant - leaves raw or cooked; flowers raw, as a very decorative addition to the salad bowl; seeds raw, best used before they are fully mature. Herbal plant - all parts of the plant are antiphlogistic, astringent, demulcent, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, laxative, salve; leaves and flowers can be eaten as part of the diet; the whole plant is an excellent laxative for young children.
