Łódź, Botanical Garden
It is native to temperate southern, central and eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran and the Caucasus, but has been cultivated and introduced outside its native range. Herbal plant - all parts of the plant are analgesic, antidote, antispasmodic, diuretic, hallucinogenic, mydriatic, narcotic and sedative; the roots are the most active part of the plant; all parts of the plant contain tropane alkaloid, mostly the root; this alkaloid inhibit the parasympathetic nervous system which controls involuntary body activities, which reduces saliva, gastric, intestinal and bronchial secretions, as well as the activity of the urinary tubules, bladder and intestines; an extract of the plant has been used as eyedrops, it has the effect of dilating the pupils thus making it easier to perform eye operations. Usable plant - it has been found to be effective in removing PCB's from the soil and detoxifying them; the plant is more effective in doing this if it is infected with the bacterial parasite Agrobacterium tumefaciens.
