Native to central and southern Europe mountains. Usable plant - Arabidopsis halleri is increasingly being employed as a model organism by researchers studying metal tolerance, metal hyperaccumulation, self-incompatibility, perennialism, disease resistance, adaptation to climate and altitude, and transposon biology.
