Native to Central China (Guangxi, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, and Sichuan). Ornamental plant. Herbal plant - the leaves are used mainly for colds and for general strengthening of the body; the fruits have antipyretic effects; in folk medicine, Berberis has been used among others, for liver disease and other digestive ailments, e.g. digestive disorders or lack of appetite.
